Today we will discuss the Drake Equation, which helps us determine how likely intelligent life exists in the galaxy! Take notes in your class notebook.
The quiz will have 25 questions, and will be a mix of multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. The quiz will cover star systems, stars, and planets. A completed and accurate HR Star Diagram is necessary for several questions on the quiz. Other assignments that lead up to this quiz (and are required for a retake) are:
Monday, we watched two short videos and then spent the rest of class catching up on science work.
Update: Exam moved from Friday, 14-Dec, to Wednesday, 3-Dec. Retakes will be available through Thursday, December 18. On Wednesday we will take a midterm exam on all astronomy topics covered during 2nd Quarter. This will be just like a final exam, except that you will have the option to retake it through finals by Thursday, December 18. To retake the mid-term, you must have all relevant assignments complete and turned in to Mr. Zuber.
Thursday we took notes on star life cycle and star classification. Attached below are the teacher notes. Please make sure to sketch the "star life cycle" diagram into your notes.
On Monday we are taking brief notes on various units of measurement used in astronomy (astronomical unit, parsec, light-year). We will then explore the "Scale of the Universe" website. The rest of the class period is "ketchup time" to catch up on any missing science work.
