On Monday and Tuesday this week we will watch the videos below on "conflict minerals", answer some questions in our notebooks (worksheet attached below) and write a one-page essay on the topic, which is due Thursday, April 16. Click here for a really good infographic on conflict minerals.
After finishing our Rock Cycle Foldable and Mineral Notes, we will watch part of the National Geographic special, "Into the Lost Crystal Caves", a documentary about the Crystal Caves of Naica, Mexico.
Wednesday we will take notes on minerals. You may use the cloze notes for full credit this time, or you may take notes using the Cornell Notes style.
Tuesday we will all be rocks! You will take the role of a rock and take a journey through the Rock Cycle! Classroom stations will remain set up for at least two weeks after the activity for make up work. You can do the activity at home using the Rock Cycle Journey Dice document attached below. Written instructions, and also instructions on a slide presentation are also attached below.
Week 4: Rocks
Thursday and Friday this week (Apr 2-3) we will use to finish earlier assignments and create the cover for our Rock Cycle Foldable. The cover diagram should be in full color and carefully show the relationships between the major rock groups, as shown below. On Monday, we will takes notes on the Rock Cycle inside the foldable.
Attached below are three rock crossword puzzles, one for each major type of rock (igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic). These are optional assignments, and while not "extra credit", will count positively towards your grade if completed. Also, if you correctly complete all three puzzles, you will earn a prize!!! (prize TBD, at a minimum you might get candy, but I'm working on something cooler).
Carefully read Chapter 5.1: Classifying Rocks (pgs 144-147) and complete the two worksheets attached below in your notebook. Make sure to follow the instructions on the worksheets carefully.
