Make a "four-door" foldable with four major sections. Assign one of the basic volcano types to each section and takes notes in your foldable. An example of what the closed front of your foldable should look like, as well as the notes for inside, is attached below.

SUBMITTING YOUR ESSAY Thank you for your interest in participating in our Elevate Your Life essay contest! In order to be eligible, you must be in the 8th grade at Lone Star Middle School in Nampa, Idaho. Simply titled “Elevate Your Life”, the essay is a free-form, 250-750 word answer to four questions: 1. What is your dream? 2. How will you achieve it? 3. What role does your education take in attaining your dream? 4. What will you do with it once you have attained it? Turn in your essays to your advisory teacher or Mrs. Young by March 12, 2015. Please include your name, age, grade, and the name of your school. Thursday we will take notes using the Cornell Notes style on magma and lava, liquid rock! As an alternate, you can use the cloze notes ("fill-in-the-blank" notes) for a max grade of a "C".
Draw and label a cross-section of a volcano in your class notebook. Further instructions and a sample diagram are attached below.
Monday we will watch the National Geographic video, "Naked Science: Super Volcanoes". In your class notebook, start a new page (title, date, page #, ToC) and number 1-10 down the page (skipping every other line). While watching the video in class, take notes on 10 interesting facts about super volcanoes, volcanoes in general, Yellowstone National Park, or anything else interesting from the video! On Tuesday we will finish the video, then watch another short video from Nat Geo, "Volcanoes 101". Write 3 more interesting facts from this second video. The third video we won't watch in class, but makes a good overview of why volcanoes erupt.
