Take notes on the different types of variables in scientific experiments. Answer the questions about the four examples of experiments run by SpongeBob and his friends. Part of Unit 1 Notebook grade. Variables: Parts of a scientific experiment. Can be anything. Control Variables: ("What I keep the same") The variables in an experiment that are kept the same, to make the experiment fair. Independent Variable: ("What I change") The variable that is changed to test a hypothesis. A fair experiment has only ONE independent variable. Dependent Variables: ("What is changed") The variables that change as a result of the experiment. Your results. In some experiments, subjects (people, plants, anything) are sometimes separated into two kinds of groups: Control Group: The subjects that have no changes made to themselves, their behavior, or their experiences. Also sometimes called the placebo group. This group provides a normal comparison to the experimental group. Experimental Group: The subjects that are subject to a change, the subjects actually being tested.
